1. Not having adequate user permission on some of the files contained within the folder

  • Double check your user permissions or make sure to login as system admin. Sometimes the files could be in a private state that requires users to have permissions checked for “may see files before initial check-in (Private State)”

2. Orphaned files in the folder

  • Sometimes, “orphaned” document records still linked to the folder in the database could prevent the delete.
  • Add a new temporary text file (*.txt)  to the folder which you are not able to destroy/delete. Doing so will activate an orphaned record cleanup process, which should let you delete the folder.
  • or, if the previous step does not help then you can use the “CleanupOrphanDoc80.sql” script to try to remove such records. (refer to KB Solution S-028962).

How to install and register the Solidworks PDM Microsoft Office Add-in manually https://centralinnovation.com/technical-resources/tips-and-tricks/how-to-manually-install-and-register-the-microsoft-office-add-in/ https://centralinnovation.com/technical-resources/tips-and-tricks/how-to-manually-install-and-register-the-microsoft-office-add-in/#respond Tue, 26 Jul 2022 23:39:34 +0000 https://centralinnovation.com/?p=66454 SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional includes a Microsoft Office add-in for Excel, Word and PowerPoint that allows you to perform vault operations on documents opened in the Office application. Normally you would select the Office add-in (Microsoft Office Integration) option during the client installation if Office is detected on the system. If for some reason you were not able to select the option via the install wizard, you can manually install the Office add-in as follows:

1) First verify if your Office version is 32-bit or 64-bit. The best method is to open the Office application and go to File, Help, and view the About information. It should state if the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.

An alternate method is to start the Office application and view the process details for the application. If it shows 32 next to the process name, the application is 32-bit. Otherwise it is 64-bit.

2) Browse to ..\SWPDMClient\ folder on the install media and locate the Office add-in .CAB file

3) Open Office.cab for 32-bit Office. Extract epdmlib.dll and office.dll into the SOLIDWORKS PDM 32-bit program folder location (c:\Program Files (x86)\SolidWorks PDM). OR, Open Office64.cab for 64-bit Office. Extract epdmlib.dll1 and office.dll1 into the Enterprise PDM install folder (c:\Program Files\SolidWorks Enterprise PDM) and rename the files to epdmlib.dll and office.dll.

4) Start a command prompt using the Run as Administrator option.

5) Step into the install folder where the two files were extracted and type the following commands (followed by Enter keystroke): regsvr32 epdmlib.dll regsvr32 office.dll

6) Start the Office application and the SOLIDWORKS PDM add-in tab should now show up.

7) If it does not show, go to File, Options, Add-Ins, Manage COM Add-ins and press Go…

8. Make sure the SOLIDWORKS PDM integration add-in is listed and enabled. If it is not listed, try starting the Office application using the “run as administrator” option, then use the Add… option in the COM Add-Ins dialog to locate and load the office.dll file.

9) If the SOLIDWORKS PDM tab still does not load, try restarting the system.

How to Manually Clean Up and Delete Orphaned or Leftover Solidworks® Pdm File Vault Information for a File Vault That No Longer Exists on the Archive Server? https://centralinnovation.com/technical-resources/tips-and-tricks/how-to-manually-clean-up-and-delete-orphaned-or-leftover-solidworks-pdm-file-vault-information-for-a-file-vault-that-no-longer-exists-on-the-archive-server/ https://centralinnovation.com/technical-resources/tips-and-tricks/how-to-manually-clean-up-and-delete-orphaned-or-leftover-solidworks-pdm-file-vault-information-for-a-file-vault-that-no-longer-exists-on-the-archive-server/#respond Tue, 01 Feb 2022 23:40:21 +0000 https://centralinnovation.com/?p=64050 You should be able to manually clean up orphaned or leftover SOLIDWORKS® PDM Professional file vault information for a file vault that no longer exist on the server using the information provided below.

[*WARNING – Only make these manual modifications if you are certain the file vaults no longer exist*]

If you are seeing traces of a deleted file vault in the SOLIDWORKS® PDM Administration tool or when refreshing a listed archive server – Try the following steps to clean up any orphaned file vault information:

The SOLIDWORKS® PDM Administration tool “caches” the server connection info and any vaults it has previously been connected to.  To make sure you are not seeing any cached info:

  • Close SOLIDWORKS® PDM Administration tool
  • Using ‘Regedit’ delete the following registry key:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\ConisioAdmin
  • Start SOLIDWORKS® PDM Administration tool. Only the archive server and vaults that you have a local file vault view to will show up.  To refresh the information for the archive server, right-click the archive server > select “refresh” – it will then show all vaults hosted on that archive server
  • Note: If the “orphaned” vault shows up again – the archive server registry still has some data left in the registry. Please verify and remove as appropriate.
  • Check the following registry key, the “Vaults” multi-string entry should only contain the actual file vaults you have on that server. If the orphaned vault shows up, delete it. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise \ArchiveServer\Computers\\Archives
  • Check under the following registry key – each file vault will have a subkey named the file vault name. If the orphaned vault has a key, delete it. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise \ArchiveServer\Vaults

NOTE: If you have some orphaned local file vault views, to delete them without logging in, right-click the view > and select “delete file vault view” > then when the login dialog appears > press ‘Cancel’ and proceed with deleting the view.
