Coverings 4.42 Update Notes

A major upgrade for Coverings has now been released for Archicad 26 and 27 – this new update brings in several new features, more details about the changes can be found in this recent Ci Tools Webinar.

Deprecated Library Objects:

With the large amount of changes to the Coverings objects, we have created new objects for the Updated ones, and have renamed the existing objects as Deprecated.

They are still fine to use, so you can continue using them in your existing projects, but we recommend that for any New coverings you place, you use the new objects.

There is no need to migrate your existing placed coverings to the new Elements right away, unless you need some of the new features in them.

Find Ci Door / Window using Ci Schedules

Did you know that the Ci Tools Schedules can be used to find any Ci Doors and Windows in the 3D Views? Maybe you want to quickly change the size parameters or any other properties of the element, particularly helpful in a large project. If it can be shown in a schedule, it can be found and selected in 3D with just two clicks.

Ci Tools Library vs Ci Select Library

Ci Tools Library is different than the Ci Select Library

Ci Tools Library is necessary to run the Add-On (like Doors+Windows, Coverings, Cabinets, Sites etc.), whereas the Ci Select Library is a number of objects ( Objects listed with # in their nomenclature – for example Wall Frame #2013, Floor Framing #1943) developed by Central Innovation for you to use in your project and it is not necessary for the Tools to run.

Did you know the CI Select Library is updated regularly with new objects requested by users!

And If you are a Select member it is a good idea to check your library is up to date so you are getting the most of your membership. Select the Object Selection Settings > CI Select Library > scroll down and select CI Select Library Version > You can inspect the current settings or Check for Updates.

‘Zoom to Selection’

To use Zoom to Selection –all you need to do is select elements (with mouse click, Find & Select or Ctrl/Cmd+A etc) and then go to View > Zoom > Zoom to Selection

It is really useful for the following…

centering elements in the screen prior to saving a new view
finding elements in a view after selecting them with Find & Select
checking your selection is where you expect it to be

Personally, I select the elements and then right-click the mouse – Zoom to Selection is always in the bottom.

License lost with Windows update

Recently we came across couple of users reporting a lost / destroyed key, post system (OS) updates. So when you update the OS or Format the system, the Software key gets erased. For example : Automatic Windows update (i.e. shut down and update system), re-installed or changed versions of their OS (i.e. 10 to 11).

FIX – Always remember to upload your Software Key to the cloud when making any changes to your hardware or Operating Systems including updates/upgrades. Including restoring your system from a backup.
If this isn’t done, the Software Key will likely be damaged or destroyed during these processes. Replacement of a destroyed license may incur a fee.

Distance Guides – Archicad 27

Use Distance Guides to input and move elements accurately on the Floor Plan, with pop-up guides that show dynamic distances from surrounding “context” elements. You can use Distance Guides both during and after element placement.

Make sure you enable it at Options > Work Environment > More Options > Experimental Features.

Create a Polygon Wall

Poly Wall

Walls are one of the basic construction elements in Archicad, which allows us to create walls with a different forms or continuous varying thickness using the Geometry Method: Polygonal in the Wall Tool. For example 2 different profiled walls shown in the following Screenshots with facility to Edit their edges and shape, both in Plan & 3D Views.

Please note that you have to select the Basic Structure option for the Wall Tool to be able to model a polygonal wall. If the Composite or Complex Profile Structure is selected, the Polygonal Geometry Method is disabled.

Creating a Trapezoidal Wall

To Create / Model a Trapezoidal or Non-Parallel wall, two thickness fields are active in the Wall Selection Settings: Enter a thickness value for each end of the Wall as shown in the screenshots as an example – Plan and 3D View of the wall display a different thickness on the ends.

Various editing Options are available in the Plan, 3D & Elevation / Section views, as shown in the followingscreenshots.
